Task Sheriff was founded in 2016 as a bootstrapped AI fintech startup in Tel Aviv. We built data-driven machine learning pipelines — NLP, computer vision, and supervised learning models — that achieved ×2 data accuracy improvement and ×5 reduction in manual workload for accounting teams. Our foundation work on ML models created the AP automation capabilities that caught Sage's attention.

In March 2021, Sage acquired Task Sheriff, and our team became Sage AI Labs. The core technology of Task Sheriff now serves as the intelligent engine driving Sage’s AP automation, providing the sophisticated machine learning needed to achieve “touchless” invoice processing. By integrating our proprietary data extraction and autonomous GL coding algorithms, Sage has transformed the Intacct AP Agent into a powerhouse of efficiency that eliminates manual data entry for finance teams.

We are not selling the Sheriff any more. We are industry veterans who kept going: researching where agentic AI actually works in accounting and finance, testing it against real ledgers and real close cycles, and publishing what we find. The blog is where that research lands — what is good, what is bad, and what is only marketing.
